The Killer - Better Judged By Twelve Than Carried By Six (2004)

The debut album from Chicago's The Killer.  An unusual mix of hardcore styles that works well. Fast, crusty hardcore a la Tragedy and From Ashes Rise being mixed with "beatdown" style hardcore on par with Integrity. Fast, thrashy hardcore with hoarse vocals and loaded with dance floor breakdowns.

Mother of Mercy - No Eden (2008)

Formed in the Spring of 2007 and featuring ex members of Let Down, Mother of Mercy plays contemporary metallic hardcore that draws some of the best elements of 90's 'core with a well-executed tinge of metal. Their music is raw, abrasive and dark - highly influenced by Samhain, Undertow and Obituary.  No Eden was released on Collapse Records and is the 5 track EP that kick started it all.  Solid shit that any fan of metal or hardcore should definitely check out.

Bolt Thrower - In Battle There Is No Law (1988)

In Battle There Is No Law is the debut album of Bolt Thrower. It is recorded at Loco studios by Andrew Fryer, and mixed at Clockwork by Alan Scott. It was released on Vinyl Solution as Sol 11 in 1988 and re-released on Vinyl Solution as Sol 11 in 1992, with a different album sleeve. The album was again re-released in 2005 with the old album sleeve restored.

*German metalcore act Heaven Shall Burn used the same album title for their debut EP as a homage to Bolt Thrower, claiming that the British death metal band had a huge influence on their music.

Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos (1989)

Realm of Chaos, subtitled Slaves to Darkness, is Bolt Thrower's second studio album, recorded at Loco studios in April 1989, engineered by Tim Lewis. It was mixed at Slaughterhouse Studios in July 1989 and engineered by Colin Richardson. It is produced by Bolt Thrower and Digby Pearson. The cover art work is produced by Games Workshop. The whole album is closely tied to Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 game background and Realm of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness was the title of a gaming book by Games Workshop released in 1988.

The album was released on Earache Records: Mosh 13 in 1989. In 2005 a re-issue was released by Earache, featuring new artwork. The band advises not to buy the re-issue, as they have not been involved and will not get royalties.

Realm of Chaos displays a progression from its previous output in speed and riffage. There is a strong focus on blast beats in many of the songs, with chaotic guitar soloing, common in grindcore. Nevertheless the signature heavy riffing is also apparent. Thus, this is usually considered a death metal album, or a deathgrind album (a fusion of death metal and grindcore).

Bolt Thrower - War Master (1991)

War Master is a Bolt Thrower album, recorded at Slaughterhouse studios in September 1990, produced by Bolt Thrower and Colin Richardson. It was released on Earache Records: Mosh 29 in 1991.  Whereas Realm of Chaos was dominated by grindcore based blasts and riffs, this album abandons most of the grindcore influences for a sound that is more strictly death metal. Moreover, there is more melody in the music and the guitar solos, although some chaotic solos remain. This is also the final Bolt Thrower album to feature the blast beat style of drumming (which can be heard on three songs - "What Dwells Within", "War Master", and "Afterlife"), before it was abandoned and subsequently never used thereafter in the Bolt Thrower discography.  "Cenotaph" is a thematic continuation of the song "World Eater" from the previous record. It shares the opening and ending riffs and it has some lyrical similarities as well.  The album was extensively sampled on Dutch breakcore producer Bong-Ra's album Full Metal Racket, with allusions also including song titles such as "Bloody Cenotaph" and "Jo Bench".

Bold Thrower - The IV Crusade (1993)

The IVth Crusade is the fourth studio album by the British death metal band Bolt Thrower. It was recorded at Sawmill Studios in August 1992 and produced by Bolt Thrower and Colin Richardson. The album was engineered by John Cornfield and mixed at Fon studios. It was also engineered by Alan Fisch and Steve Harris. It was released through Earache Records as Mosh 70 in 1992. The album title comes from the Fourth Crusade and the capturing of Constantinople. The cover artwork is a painting from Eugène Delacroix, showing "The Entry of the Crusaders in Constantinople".  For this album Bolt Thrower slowed down considerably compared to War Master, focussing more on playing heavy riffs and a thick sound. Album feature more death/doom metal-driven style, and which was influenced by doom metal bands including Candlemass and Black Sabbath. Particularly, this style is apparent in songs like "This Time It's War," or "As the World Burns."  "Embers" opens and ends as "Cenotaph" did on the previous album War Master, and leads into "Powder Burns" on Mercenary.

The Nobodys - Short Songs For Short Attention Spans (1996)

The Nobodys were an American Punk rock from Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Mixing four-chord Ramones-inspired rock anthems with an unadulterated pornography fixation, their 1996 debut album on Hopeless Records, Short Songs for Short Attention Spans was produced by Joe Queer of The Queers. They toured extensively for Short Songs around the US, Europe and Canada.  In 1997 they released a second full length LP, Smell of Victory (produced by Warren Fitzgerald of The Vandals). Appearances on the Hopelessly Devoted to You II (over 125,000 sold) and Cinema Beer Nuts (over 75,000 sold) compilations as well as tours with The Queers, Chixdiggit and Guttermouth won more fans. With vinyl splits and EPs, the band made it easy to find this material by compiling it on their forth full length release, Greatasstits.  They continued into the early 2000s before calling it quits.

FYP - Finish Your Popcorn (1992)

F.Y.P (aka Five Year Plan) was Todd Congelliere's punk rock predecessor to his current bands Toys That Kill and Underground Railroad to Candyland. The group began as a one man band with a cheap Fisher Price drum machine providing the beat (per 7" liner notes).
From 1989, when Todd began work on the first EP until disbanding in 1999, F.Y.P gained notoriety (not to mention a noticeable increase in talent) in the DIY punk scene for touring the world several times bankrolled and set up by the Conge (per liner notes to last album entitled Toys That Kill).
While still a band, during its ten year span, F.Y.P toured Europe several times, Japan once, and the U.S. numerous times. They released over a dozen records on Recess Records before disbanding and received coverage in music magazines such as Maximumrocknroll, Razorcake and Flipside.  Finish Your Popcorn is their first full length release.

FYP - Dance My Dunce (1995)

Revered by the majority of their fans as F.Y.P. at its most punkest, Dance My Dunce is feisty and raw, a record that sounds like it was recorded on somebody's broken Walkman. Singer/songwriter Todd Congelliere's high-pitched squeal of a voice has never sounded more manic, like a Muppet being strangled. Classics like "Vacation Bible School" and their cover of the Toy Dolls' "My Girlfriend's Dad's a Vicar" feature some infectious singalong-type hooks, while "It's Not My Fault You Like Air Supply," a perfect punk masterpiece about a junkie girlfriend, and "Kids That Play Dead," an ode to messed-up parents, are surprisingly mature riot-stokers for these young and insane, geek-punk geniuses. One couldn't find a more definitive example of genuine, '90s punk rock at its absolute fiery best.
